How thread lift works

How does a Face Thread Lift work?

A Face Thread Lift is a minimally invasive procedure that uses dissolvable threads, inserted beneath the skin, to provide subtle support to areas affected by mild to moderate skin laxity. Depending on your individual anatomy and treatment goals, threads may be placed in areas such as the cheeks, jawline, brows or neck.

The treatment works in two ways. Firstly, the carefully placed threads provide immediate structural support to reposition and support the surrounding soft tissues. Some thread types also feature small barbs or cones that help anchor the threads within the tissue.

Secondly, the insertion of the threads stimulates the body’s natural healing response. As the threads gradually dissolve over time, collagen production may be encouraged around the treated area. Collagen is a naturally occurring protein that helps maintain skin firmness, structure and elasticity.

Results vary from person to person and depend on factors such as age, skin quality and individual healing. During your consultation, your practitioner will assess whether a Face Thread Lift is suitable for your concerns and discuss the results you may reasonably expect.

How do I prepare for a Face Thread Lift?

Before your Face Thread Lift, Dr Mike will review your medical history and discuss whether the procedure is appropriate for you. To help prepare for treatment, you may be advised to:

  • Tell your practitioner about all medications, vitamins and herbal supplements you are taking.
  • Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment, unless otherwise advised.
  • Discuss any blood-thinning medications, including aspirin, with your prescribing doctor before stopping them. Do not stop prescribed medications unless advised by your healthcare provider.
  • Avoid smoking before and after the procedure where possible, as smoking may affect healing.
  • Arrive with clean skin and without makeup on the treatment area, if instructed.

Frequently asked questions

What is a face thread lift?

A face thread lift is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that uses medical-grade threads placed beneath the skin to provide soft tissue support in selected patients. It may be discussed for concerns such as mild to moderate facial laxity, midface support, jawline definition or jowling, depending on individual anatomy and suitability.

Who performs face thread lift consultations at Géniale?

Face thread lift consultations are led by Dr Mike Shenouda, Founder and Medical Director of Géniale. Dr Mike is an Australian medical practitioner and cosmetic physician. He is recognised internationally as a trainer and educator in facial thread lifting and advanced facial rejuvenation techniques.

AHPRA Registration: MED0001162043.

Is a face thread lift suitable for everyone?

No. A face thread lift is not suitable for every patient. Suitability depends on facial anatomy, skin quality, degree of laxity, medical history, risk profile, treatment goals and whether another option may be more appropriate.

What areas can be assessed during a face thread lift consultation?

Areas that may be assessed include the midface, cheeks, jawline, jowls, lower face, neck, brow and related facial support areas. Treatment planning depends on anatomy, skin quality, tissue support and individual goals.

What happens during a face thread lift consultation?

Your consultation may include discussion of your concerns, medical history, facial anatomy, skin quality, degree of laxity, treatment suitability, risks, recovery, limitations, alternatives and expected costs.

What does the procedure involve?

If suitable, medical-grade threads are placed beneath the skin at selected points to support soft tissue. Thread type, number, placement and treatment areas are determined after consultation.

What are the risks or possible side effects?

Possible risks include temporary swelling, bruising, tenderness, tightness, asymmetry, dimpling, infection, thread visibility, thread movement, discomfort or the need for further treatment. Risks and aftercare are discussed before treatment.

How long does a face thread lift procedure take?

Procedure time varies depending on the number of threads, treatment areas and complexity. Your practitioner will discuss the expected appointment duration during consultation.

How long do face thread lift results last?

Longevity varies between patients and depends on thread type, treatment area, skin quality, ageing, lifestyle and individual response. Results cannot be guaranteed.

Will I need more than one treatment?

Some patients may benefit from staged or additional treatment, while others may not. This is assessed individually during consultation.

Are face thread lift consultations available in Sydney, Melbourne and Gold Coast?

Yes. Géniale provides face thread lift consultations and procedures across Sydney, Melbourne and the Gold Coast. Suitability, risks, recovery, limitations and alternatives are discussed before treatment is recommended.

How do I book a face thread lift consultation?

You can contact Géniale to book a consultation. If treatment is suitable and you wish to proceed, the team will explain next steps and provide a formal quote before the procedure is booked.

How much does a face thread lift cost?

Face thread lift cost depends on the treatment area, number and type of threads used, treatment complexity and whether additional options are discussed during consultation. A formal quote is provided after assessment, once your practitioner has reviewed your anatomy, goals, suitability and treatment plan.

Does the consultation include a personalised treatment plan?

Yes. A face thread lift consultation includes assessment of your facial anatomy, skin quality, degree of laxity, goals, risks, limitations and alternatives. If treatment is suitable, your practitioner can discuss a personalised treatment plan and provide a formal quote before any procedure is booked.

What is the difference between a thread lift and a facelift?

A thread lift is a non-surgical procedure that uses medical-grade threads, including PDO thread lift options where appropriate, to provide soft tissue support in selected patients. A surgical facelift is a more invasive surgical procedure that can address more significant facial laxity. They are not the same procedure, and suitability depends on anatomy, goals, recovery expectations and clinical assessment.

Is a thread lift better than dermal fillers?

A thread lift and dermal fillers are different treatment options. A face thread lift may be discussed for soft tissue support, while dermal fillers may be discussed for volume-related concerns where clinically appropriate. One is not automatically better than the other. Suitability depends on your anatomy, skin quality, goals, risk profile and consultation findings.

Can a thread lift be combined with other cosmetic treatments?

In selected patients, a face thread lift may be discussed alongside other cosmetic treatments, such as skin treatments, regenerative treatments or other non-surgical facial rejuvenation options. Combination treatment is not suitable for everyone and should only be planned after assessment of risks, timing, recovery and treatment goals.

Is a face thread lift the same as a non-surgical facelift?

A face thread lift is sometimes discussed by patients searching for a non-surgical facelift, but it is not the same as surgical facelift surgery. Thread lifting may provide soft tissue support for selected patients, while surgery may be more appropriate for more significant laxity. Your practitioner will discuss which option may be suitable after assessment.
