The Fox Eye thread lift, also known as “Foxy Eye Lift”, “Designer Eyes” or the “Cat Eye Lift” is an increasingly popular brow-lifting treatment that gives patients a ‘cat-eye’ look and has been made popular by celebrities such as Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid.

The treatments use dissolvable threads to create almond-shaped eyes with a slightly flicked tail. The procedure aims to give a winged and open lift to the eye and brow – all without the downtime of surgery.

Although popular with young women, older women also view the fox eye as a subtle treatment for hooded eyes associated with ageing.

Unlike a more permanent surgical blepharoplasty, there are no permanent changes to the face and part of the eyelid is not cut away.

The treatment has a 3-in-1 type benefit in that it lifts three areas: the lateral canthus of the eyes (top corner of the upper lid), the upper eyelids and the eyebrows – all without a single incision.

What happens during the Foxy eye lift procedure?

  • The procedure involves a doctor-administered local anaesthetic above the brow and insertion of newer-style, synthetic absorbable threads, via a single skin puncture.
  • Over time, the threads dissolve and the lifted brow results should be somewhat noticeable immediately, and fully noticeable within three weeks.
  • Our doctors can also adjust the look of the treatment in a follow-up procedure if required.
  • Results may last up to a year depending on the patient.
  • The procedure takes 30 minutes and uses premium TGA approved threads placed by Géniale’s cosmetic physician.
  • “I think the big surge in popularity of the procedure is partly due to celebrities and influencers,” says Dr Mike Shenouda, Cosmetic Physician and Director at Géniale.
  • However I think most ordinary women are also seeking more affordable, non-permanent anti-ageing options that allow them to revert back to their previous look at a later stage should they wish.”
  • “There is also appeal in that it’s a walk-in, walk-out procedure. Thread lifts (whether the Foxy lift or general thread lift which covers a greater area of the face), generally have a reduced recovery time in comparison to a facelift. Recovery is typically the same day or a few days, whereas traditional facelift surgery can take weeks to recover.”

What are the side effects of the Foxy eye lift procedure?

  • There will be a small number of tiny needle marks on both sides of the face immediately visible after the procedure.
  • These can be easily covered with makeup and tend to disappear in two or three days.
  • Temporary bruising, swelling and tenderness around the suture area can occur
  • There may also be some numbness, tightness and headaches, for a few days post-operatively.
  • Other side effects include small burst blood vessels, infection or scarring but these are rare.
  • The feeling of a palpable thread is rare.
  • It is very important to stop smoking at least 10 days before the procedure and to stop taking any blood-thinning preparations, aspirin, or supplements such as fish oil tablets that may increase bleeding for 10 days before the procedure. Please discuss any over the counter medications or herbal preparations and vitamins with your doctor during your consultation as they may thin the blood.

What is the recovery time for Foxy Eye Lift and how do I speed healing?

  • Many people return to work in 1-2 days, however, for the first 14 days, it’s best to avoid tanning beds, sun, massage, swimming and contact sports.
  • After the procedure, ice the area, for 48 hours on and off for 20 minutes for the first six hours but make sure the cold packs are not placed directly on the skin.
  • Paracetamol can be taken for pain
  • Do not apply make-up for 48 hours
  • Be gentle washing your face, and sleep with the face slightly elevated for a few nights, on a deeper pillow or an extra pillow.

When will I see the results of my Foxy Eye Lift?

  • Due to swelling from the procedure, the initial results may seem quite “dramatic” but this will settle in a few days when the swelling goes down.
  • Results can last for up to 12 months depending on the patient.

Who is the best candidate for the Foxy Eye Lift?

Not everyone is suitable for this procedure. Some of the attributes that make a candidate more suitable include:

  • Younger women in their 20s and 30s with more collagen
  • People with minimal fat in the eye socket
  • “It’s horses for courses and it’s very important to have the discussion with your doctor about what procedure best suits your face,” says Dr Shenouda.
  • “I frequently advise older women with less collagen that a more permanent solution may work better such as a blepharoplasty.
“It also depends on the facial shape and how your eyes are set. People may want all the foxy eyes in the world. But it simply will not suit everyone’s face shape and in these cases non-surgical fillers may be a better option.”

Is a Fox Eye Lift painful?

Most women seem to tolerate the procedure well, but some notice mild soreness and swelling which is manageable with paracetamol and is usually short-lived.
