Brow / Forehead Lift

Brow / Forehead Lift

OVERVIEWRISKSCOSTFAQGALLERY

Our forehead is where our muscles and skin age more rapidly than other parts of the face due to it being such an expressive part of the face – every time you raise your eyebrows with surprise, shock or any other emotion, our forehead skin and muscles are working, moving and ageing. As they do this they pave the way for both wrinkles and skin laxity. Géniale’s brow lift, also referred to as a forehead lift, can help to reduce or remove wrinkles, lines and ingrained facial expressions on your forehead area.

WHY GENIALE?

If you come to Géniale for a brow lift procedure you’ll be in the incredible hands of Dr. Eugene Jackson. Dr. Jackson gained valuable experience in emergency medicine, intensive care, general surgery, internal medicine and paediatrics. After strong encouragement and support from a senior surgeon in New Zealand, he decided to pursue a career in surgery, focusing specifically on Neurosurgery. He gained extensive practical and theoretical training in Neurosurgery in South Africa and Australia over a 5 year period.

Dr. Jackson’s gentle and caring approach will provide you with an honest opinion regarding your suitability for a brachioplasty, with your safety and wellbeing at the core of every decision.

DO I NEED A CONSULTATION FIRST?

Here at Géniale, we will take the time to discuss a holistic approach to your goals for reshaping your body. A preliminary consultation is encouraged so you can get to know our team, and so that our resident browlift specialist can assess the proportions of your entire body, not only your face, to ensure your results are as natural as possible. We also encourage consultations so you can learn more about alternative procedures that may be better suited to your goals.

HOW IS THE TREATMENT CARRIED OUT?

There are several different techniques for a brow or forehead lift, all related to where the incisions are made. For example an endoscopic browlift involves tiny incisions being made at the top of the forehead near the hairline, whereas a coronal browlift which involves incisions being made from ear to ear. For some patients a direct browlift, which sees incisions made in your eyebrows, is more suited due to its effectiveness at combatting wrinkles in between your eyes. Different patients will require different techniques and these will all be discussed during your preliminary consultation.

While all of our surgeons are highly trained to ensure that any undesirable side effects are minimal, there are
still inherent risks associated with this procedure. These include:

  • Anaesthesic risks
  • Bleeding – Infection – Loss of hair at incision area – Elevated hairline
  • Irritation of the eyes
  • Facial asymmetry
  • Facial nerve injury with weakness or paralysis
  • Fluid accumulation
  • Infection – Numbness or other changes in skin sensation or intense itching
  • Pain, which may persist
  • Poor wound healing
  • Possibility of revision surgery
  • Skin loss
  • Unfavorable scarring
  • Rare risk of deep venous thrombosis (blood clots) that can result in a pulmonary embolism with chest pain, shortness of breath

*Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.

Is it right for me?

We understand how difficult the decision is to undergo any medical procedure. During your preliminary consultation we will assess your suitability for a browlift procedure and discuss with you how best to achieve your desired result.

How long is the recovery time?

A browlift recovery on average requires 10-14 days resting time away from work. The main issues are bruising and swelling, along with giving your incisions time to heal. This is an extremely important aspect of the recovery period as looking after your incisions properly will ensure you minimise any scarring. Returning to strenuous physical exercise is determined on a case by case basis, however it generally requires approximately 4-6 weeks.

Will there be any scarring?

Experienced surgeons such as Dr Bill Lyon are also able to minimise scarring and ensure any scars are well hidden behind the ears or the hairline. These scars will then fade over time to be even more inconspicuous.

Will I need anaesthetic?

Experienced surgeons such as Dr Bill Lyon are also able to minimise scarring and ensure any scars are well hidden behind the ears or the hairline. These scars will then fade over time to be even more inconspicuous.

Will other medications affect results?

Our Géniale doctors will enquire into any medications you are taking during your consultation. Depending on the medication these may need to be halted leading up to the surgery.

How long does the procedure take?

Typically this procedure takes one to two hours.
