Neurotoxins Injectables relax facial muscles.

Wrinkles on the face such as those between the eyebrows are created by facial movements. As we move our faces, lines develop and become deeper over time. By injecting into the muscle, it relaxes the muscles, softening the wrinkles.

Injectables are injected into targeted areas of the face and neck to relax specific muscles to prevent skin from creasing, causing wrinkles. Wrinkles are created by natural facial movements, resulting in the development of lines that become deeper over time.

Common treatment areas include frown lines, crows feet, neck bands and smoker’s lines. The results can last for 4 to 6 months.

What you can expect:

  • Results continue to improve over the next 2 weeks.
  • No downtime with only 30-minute treatment. Minimal bruising can be expected.
  • Results typically last 4-6 months.

Looking for a subtle change in appearance without the “done” look?

The expert team at Geniale provide a range of options for injectable fillers to smooth out wrinkles and help leave you feeling fresh-faced. Call us today to book in for an appointment to see which type of dermal fillers are best for you.

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers, also called soft tissue fillers are injectable drugs that can smooth facial lines and wrinkles. These gel-like substances are injected underneath the skin by a needle to change the appearance.

This minimally invasive treatment can also enhance shallow facial contours, achieving fuller lips, or restore fuller cheeks.

Your doctor will discuss your expectations and determine what filler would be the best choice of fillers.

What are the different types of injectable fillers?*

Dermal fillers include:

Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in some tissues in your body that effectively adds plumpness to skin or thin lips. These injectables can last at least six months depending on the patient and injection area.

Polylactic acid (PLLA) stimulates the skin to make more collagen and enhance facial volume. The effects gradually become apparent over time, and their effects may last up to 2 years.

Calcium hydroxylapatite is a type of mineral commonly found in human teeth and bones. The effects of this material last approximately 18 months.

Unlike other fillers, Polymethyl-methacrylate microspheres (PMMA) is a semi-permanent filler that contains cow collagen that is relatively long-lasting.

What happens during the dermal filler procedure?

A dermal filler procedure includes the following steps:

During a pre-treatment consultation, you will be asked about your expectations for the result, your medical history reviewed and a course of treatment recommended.

Your skin tone, appearance and face will be examined.

The points will be made on your face as a mark for the injection site.

The injection sites will also be cleansed with an antibacterial agent to make more sensitive patients comfortable.

Anaesthetising will be done by using a cold instrument to chill the skin, inject local anaesthesia, or ointment to numb the skin. The filler itself may also contain an anaesthetic agent to eliminate pain.

Injection usually takes only a few moments per site. The process includes injecting, massaging, and evaluating the result is performed, and additional filler added as needed.

Once finished with the process the marks will wipe off as well.

Depending on the number of areas to be treated, the whole process can be done in as little as 15 minutes, or as long as an hour.

Who is a suitable candidate for dermal fillers?*

Injectable fillers are a relatively quick and easy way that help delay the need for more invasive procedures. Good candidates for dermal fillers include:

  • Physically healthy patients
  • Non-smokers
  • Patients with mild to moderate folds or wrinkles on the face
  • Patients who want a specific improvement that does not extend to the rest of the face
  • Patients who have a positive outlook and realistic goals in mind
  • The best way to determine if you are a candidate for an injectable filler is through a consultation.
Who is not a suitable candidate for dermal fillers?

Dermal is not recommended for:

  • Women who are breastfeeding or pregnant.
  • Patients with a history of allergies reaction to certain types of injectable
  • Patients with auto-immune disease or uncontrolled diabetes
  • Patients who tend to keloid scar
  • Patients who already have permanent filler in the area being treated
  • Patients with Body Dysmorphic Disorder (excessive concern over appearance)

What are the side effects of dermal fillers? *

Possible risks and complications of injectable fillers include:

COMMON
  • Bruising, swelling, bleeding, slight pain
LESS COMMON
  • An infection reaction at the injection site
  • Acne-like skin eruptions
  • Antibodies to filler material may reduce the effectiveness of future injections
  • Noticeable lumps, bumps, or nodules
  • Discolouration or change in pigmentation
  • Skin redness, sensitivity, itching, rash

What is the difference between Botox ® and fillers?*
Botox ®
  • Botox ® freezes muscles to stop creases and wrinkles caused by smiling, squinting, frowning, and other facial expressions.
  • Typically Botox ® treats the area in the upper face, such as the forehead and around the eyes.
  • Botox ®  results last 3 to 4 months
Dermal fillers
  • These use substances to fill in or plump areas that have lost volume and smoothness.
  • Fillers treat the areas that include wrinkles around the mouth, thin lips, and cheeks that have lost fullness and the nasial labial folds.
  • Dermal filler results vary, depending on the used filler.

Although Botox ® and fillers are different substances designed for different uses, they are often combined in one treatment.

Which celebrities have had dermal fillers procedures?

Kylie Jenner admitted that her plumped lips were the result of fillers, while Big Bang actress Kaley Cuoco has also used fillers.
