EYELID SURGERY (BLEPHAROPLASTY)

It’s all in the eyes.

THE BEAUTY OF YOUR EYES

Our eyes not only allow us to see the world, but also tell the world a lot about us. Sitting right at the direct centre of your face, eyes are one of the key signifiers of youth and beauty — they’re also a telltale sign of age.

Pronounced bags under your eyes and droopy eyelids are one of the most common signs of ageing, causing you to look far older than you are.

WHAT IS BLEPHAROPLASTY?

Cosmetic eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) involves the removal of excess fat, skin and muscle from around your eyes. This reduces both overhanging upper eyelids and heavy bags under your eyes. As these are some of the most prominent signs of ageing, eyelid surgery can take years off of your appearance while retaining a natural look. The results of this simple procedure are long-lasting and effective. It’s rare for fat and excess skin to return to these areas until several years have passed, however if they do it can be easily corrected.

IS EYELID SURGERY RIGHT FOR ME?
The most common candidates for eyelid surgery are those over the age of 40. As overhanging upper eyelids and dark bags below the eyes are a very prevalent result of ageing, this procedure is common for both men and women.

HOW LONG DOES BLEPHAROPLASTY TAKE?
While this is dependent on the patient, blepharoplasty generally takes between 1-2 hours to complete.

HOW IS BLEPHAROPLASTY PERFORMED?
For the upper eyelid, an incision is made near the curvature of the eyebrow to reduce the presence of scarring. Excess fat, muscle and skin is then
removed through this incision to alleviate the weight on your eyelids that’s causing them to droop. Lower eyelid surgery involves the tightening of skin and repositioning of fat to minimise bags under the eyes. For lower eyelid surgery the incision is made within the internal portion of the eyelid so that there is no visible scarring.

RECOVERY & RENEWAL
There is very minimal pain during eyelid surgery recovery, however some irritation or discomfort may occur. Eyedrops, ointment, and low doses of pain medication are all options to make your recovery as comfortable as possible.

We recommend taking at least 3-4 days off of work to ensure your body is able to heal as quickly and effectively as possible. We recommend taking 7-10 days off from physical activity as it can cause bruising and bleeding around incision areas. We recommend taking 2-3 weeks off for heavy physical activity.

As well as this, makeup should be avoided for a few days post surgery to keep the incision points clean. Any slight redness or inflammation around incision points will usually fade within 4-6 weeks.

ARE THERE ANY RISK INVOLVED IN EYELID SURGERY?
Eyelid surgery is widely regarded as a safe and low-risk procedure. However complications can include infection, scarring, bleeding, bruising, asymmetry and delayed wound healing. Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.

HOW MUCH DOES BLEPHAROPLASTY COST?

FAQ
How should I prepare for eyelid surgery?

To prepare for your blepharoplasty you are required to avoid smoking and refrain from using any medications which may thin your blood for 7 days before and after your procedure. This preparation plan will be discussed with your doctor prior to the procedure.

Are Eyelid Surgery Results Permanent?

For the vast majority of patients eyelid surgery results are permanent, however as your body continues to age your eyelids may begin to sag once more.

How Long Is The Recovery Time?
We recommend taking at least 3-4 days off of work to ensure your body is able to heal as quickly and effectively as possible. We recommend taking 7-10 days off from physical activity as it can cause bruising and bleeding around incision areas. We recommend taking 2-3 weeks off for heavy physical activity.
