Eyelid Reduction Surgery/Blepharoplasty Surgery

At Géniale we provide safe and effective eyelid surgery to our clients. Eyelid surgery, also known as a blepharoplasty, is a procedure that removes excess fatty tissue from the upper and the lower eyelids to improve facial appearance, reduce signs of ageing and sometimes to improve vision. The process can treat:

Sagging skin folds that affect the upper eyelid and may impair vision
Excess fatty deposits that appear as puffiness in the upper eyelids
Excess skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelid
Lower eyelid sagging that exposes too much of the eye
Bags under the eyes
Upper eyelid reductions and lower eyelid reductions are the most common plastic surgery operations. They are often done at the same time as other facial surgery procedures.

DO I NEED A CONSULTATION FIRST?

Here at Géniale, we will take the time to discuss a personalised approach with you. Eyelid reduction surgery is a highly individual procedure depending on your face shape, age, and many other factors. It may not be suitable for everyone.
Our surgeon will assess your condition, your needs, as well as your general health, and recommend the treatment best suited to you. Eyelid reduction surgery may be a good option for you if you are physically healthy (and a non-smoker), do not have any serious eye conditions and have realistic expectations.

HOW IS THE TREATMENT CARRIED OUT?

Blepharoplasty surgery procedures are performed as day procedures under local or general anaesthesia and sedation. Cold compresses are used in order to minimize any swelling in the first 24 hours. Swelling is usually quite minimal and there is only a small amount of bruising.
Blepharoplasty is performed by making a small incision in the natural crease of the upper and/or the lower eyelid. This avoids prominent scars.

Our experienced plastic surgeons will aim to minimise scarring and make any scars as inconspicuous as possible by making the incisions in natural skin lines and creases, which will disguise the scars. Most scars will fade with time and become less and less noticeable. However, If you are prone to scarring, you must advise your surgeon.

One week after an upper blepharoplasty the sutures (stitches) are removed from the upper eyelid. There are sometimes no sutures with a lower blepharoplasty, as it may be performed on the inner eyelid. In both cases you can go back to work or mix socially in seven to eight days.

How long does the procedure take?

The duration of the procedure is dependent on which areas are being treated, and how many areas are being treated. Typically, the procedure lasts between 2-3 hours.

Are there any special instructions post-operation?

We suggest you prepare a recovery area in your home to make it easier for you when you return home with lots of pillows, ice packs, and a telephone within easy reach.

We also ask you to get a relative or friend to drive you to and from the clinic and to stay with you for the first 24 hours after you return home.
